It was May of 1973, early in his college education, that Teaching Pastor Clay Harlin heard and understood the amazing love of God.

He fell in love with Jesus, and the Word of God, so much so that the following year he changed his major at David Lipscomb University to ’Bible’ with an emphasis on preaching. He did not go into the full-time ministry until 2006, but as an ordained minister he has been actively teaching from the scriptures since 1977.

Professionally, Clay began his career as Assistant to the President of Town and Country Realtors in the management and sales of real estate. He was also active in the horse industry since childhood and Harlinsdale Farm before becoming the Sales Manager of Tennessee Uniform and Towel Service. He later spent six years as President and CEO of Mid South Uniform Service in Tullahoma, Tennessee before the business was sold. Clay feels that his "professional education" has strengthened his understanding of the Bible and knows firsthand how the Lord works through the lives of men and women in the marketplace.

God opened a door for him in April of 2005 to join the staff at New Hope where he was currently serving as an Elder and Adult Bible teacher. He felt that it was a "dream come true" to be able to serve in the area of his passion.

A native Nashvillian and resident of Franklin since 1977, Clay and his wife Faye make their home in Franklin. Their oldest daughter Anna, her husband Steve DuPerrieu, and their son Jack, also live in Franklin. Clay and Faye's son, Capt. C. Talbot Harlin Jr., USMC, and his wife Ashley, live in Beaufort, South Carolina. Meredith, the youngest daughter, her husband Capt. Joel Lomasney, USMC, and their son Sam live in Hampstead, North Carolina.

One of his favorite verses is Psalms 9:10:

Psalm 9:10 “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
