Hope's Calling: Special Needs Ministry

Hope's Calling Special Needs Ministry

A Calling that Offers Hope and Help

The program was developed by Sandy Waight, former Director of New Hope’s Children’s Ministries, and Paul & Dawn Schwartz, themselves parents to three children with special needs. According to Dawn: “After moving to another city, when all three children were under the age of 3, it forced me to look for a safe and caring place that could meet their needs, so that my husband and I could literally catch our breath. This made me aware of how many other families were in the same position. After moving back to Nashville, we began to look for a similar program. With very few resources available, New Hope helped us begin this ministry for everyone’s benefit.”

A critical aspect of “Hope’s Calling” is the relationships formed with the children through volunteers. The 30 trained volunteers at New Hope provide a fun and loving environment for all children during the night out. This includes the siblings – we do not divide the children by abilities or age. Each volunteer that provides direct childcare is matched one-on-one to give each child special attention.

The Night Out program allows parents of children with special needs time to enjoy an evening to themselves while their children are entertained and cared for.
